Aurora is among the largest cities in Illinois and spans four counties — Kane, DuPage, Will and Kendall. It has a genuine downtown on the Fox River, a casino, extensive older industrial land and newer residential development on its eastern side. Four counties in one city is the practical headache: two addresses a mile apart can belong to different courthouses, different sheriffs and different filing procedures.
Why we are called to Aurora
About Aurora
The McCarty brothers built a sawmill on the Fox River in 1834, and the settlements that grew on either bank merged into a single city. Water power made it an early manufacturing centre, and the railroad made it a major one. In 1881 Aurora became one of the first cities in the United States to light its streets electrically throughout, which is the origin of its enduring nickname, the City of Lights.
We have worked across Kane, DuPage, Will and Kendall Counties since 1991. Knowing a community — how it was laid out, how it grew, how people actually move through it — is part of how an investigation gets done properly here.
