About Oak Park
A little history of Oak Park.
Joseph Kettlestrings bought land here in 1835, and the settlement grew steadily as a temperance-minded suburb west of the city. It separated from Cicero Township in 1902 to govern itself. Its architectural reputation was made by Frank Lloyd Wright, who lived and worked here from 1889 and built many of his early houses in the surrounding streets; Ernest Hemingway was born here in 1899.
