About Cicero
A little history of Cicero.
Cicero incorporated in 1867 and was once far larger than it is now; Oak Park, Berwyn and other communities were carved out of it. Its growth came from industry, above all a vast electrical manufacturing works that employed tens of thousands from 1904 and made the town a destination for successive waves of immigrants. Its reputation during the Prohibition years is well known, but the works, not the gangsters, built the place.
