Lyons sits on the Des Plaines River at a historic portage crossing, with a commercial strip along Ogden Avenue, older dense housing and substantial forest preserve and quarry land on its edges. The preserve land matters practically: large tracts with vehicle access but no residents, where a meeting can take place with no premises and no witnesses.
Why we are called to Lyons
About Lyons
Lyons sits at a site of real historical significance: the Chicago Portage, the short overland crossing between the Great Lakes and Mississippi watersheds that made Chicago's position valuable in the first place. Native peoples, then French explorers and traders, used it for generations. The village incorporated in 1888, and quarrying and the canal shaped its later industry.
We have worked across Cook County since 1991. Knowing a community — how it was laid out, how it grew, how people actually move through it — is part of how an investigation gets done properly here.
