Fox River Grove is a small village built into the bluffs along the Fox River, at the far north-western reach of our service area and outside the Cook County orbit entirely. It is compact, the terrain is steep, and the river and rail line together leave only a handful of ways in and out. In a village this size an unfamiliar vehicle is noticed within the hour, so work here is short, planned and often conducted on foot.
Why we are called to Fox River Grove
About Fox River Grove
The bluffs and river here drew Chicagoans out by rail for recreation from the late nineteenth century, and the settlement grew as a resort and summer-cottage community rather than a farming one. It incorporated in 1919. Its compact size and steep terrain are inheritances from that origin — the village was laid out for visitors on foot along the river, not for through traffic.
We have worked across McHenry County since 1991. Knowing a community — how it was laid out, how it grew, how people actually move through it — is part of how an investigation gets done properly here.
