West Chicago grew as a railroad junction and still works like one: multiple lines converge here, alongside a large industrial district and the county airport on its western edge. Rail and air together give it a freight character quite unlike the residential DuPage towns around it, and most of what we are asked to do here follows goods and people moving through rather than living here.
Why we are called to West Chicago
About West Chicago
This was Illinois' first railroad junction town. When lines running west and north-west from Chicago met here in 1849, a settlement grew at the crossing, known first as Junction and then as Turner, after a railroad official. It took the name West Chicago in 1896. The rail yards shaped the town's industry, its workforce and its street pattern, and freight remains central to it.
We have worked across DuPage County since 1991. Knowing a community — how it was laid out, how it grew, how people actually move through it — is part of how an investigation gets done properly here.
