A little history of Romeoville.
The village was originally called Romeo, paired with neighbouring Juliet — which later renamed itself Joliet, leaving Romeo without its partner and prompting the change to Romeoville. It grew with the canal and then with oil refining and manufacturing along the river corridor, incorporating in 1895. Its enormous recent growth in distribution and housing is a development of the last few decades.
